For over 30 years, Sacramento and the Kings have belonged to each other. That intense connection reaches beyond the fans cheering inside Golden 1 Center and powers the engine that is dedicated to serving the region that has beloved our team. That passion and commitment are why we’re still here; it is what makes the Kings more than a basketball team.

Together, with the region, we’ll cheer, support and fight for each other for the decades to come. It is why #SacramentoProud has become much more than a tagline and grown into a regional rally that stands for the work we all do together.

And together is how we’ll continue to grow Sacramento into the next great American city. It took the work of over 4,000 to build the world’s most technologically advanced and sustainable arena. And tens of thousands more who made their voices heard about the impact Golden 1 Center and the Kings can have on our community.

Together, the chorus of support created the once-in-a-generation opportunity that has energized our region. Kings Owner and Chairman Vivek Ranadivé has charged us to return the passion of the region and act as an agent of change for our community, to be bigger than basketball. As a community organization – not just a basketball team – we knew that this was an opening to impact Sacramento in profound ways: with an an apprentice education program creating a workforce pipeline, a design that brings our community together to celebrate events, a jobs program for Sacramento’s young adults to learn life skills in a unique setting, and much more.

But those ideas don’t become programs without the support of our community and civic leaders. And the programs don’t become pathways without our neighbors and partners committing to supporting our lofty goals. And those pathways aren’t successes without the coalition of the community, standing for the city they love.

That love of city and region is what calls us to make that same commitment beyond our arena walls. It is why we can rebuild community parks, engage thousands of young people to focus on their health and wellness, and lift up the brilliant work that advocates are doing locally. But that only happens when our corporate partners want to create an example of community responsibility, our schools want to redefine and examine how we work with young people, and our allies in change decide to put we over me.

We have a once in a lifetime opportunity in Sacramento. No other region has the elements, the ingredients or the chemistry to change its future like we do.

It is time to Align – break down the barriers, share ideas to collectively solve problems, and of course, execute the change we seek.

It comes down to being together. Because… We’re better together.

And I’m in.
